This post does not intend to be the tipical “how to get more followers in Instagram” info but a guide from observation on how to be more popular, friendly and interactive in Instagram. Although I´ve seen many of these techniques being used, I do not follow most of them. I´m in love with IG. I love Instagram as a place of photograph experimentation, love seen other places and people greeding one to another. I am not in the run to get more followers or even have a pic on the popular side of the app. But I´ve been observing advanced users and extract some social how-tos like these.
You can became popular if you get lots of followers but your pic could be in the popular page without having lots of followers or even been a good one.
Tips, tricks and techniques to become popular on Instagram
- Choose a cool username, include location keywords like this one:

- Highly interaction with your community would bring more loyalty, open yourself (at your own risk)
- Be personal, you´ll touch some fiber (@transitionpete on Instagram) or @drewmaniac getting back on his life.
- Repost, list, classify, let your new users know which had been succesful, IG timeline disappears fast
- Propose challenges, get your followers involved, be funny
- Or interesting people to follow like this NASA engineer or a band rock star
- Geolocate your pics
- Interact by asking your followers, use the note app for this
- Post comments and likes, this is one of the greatest source of new followers. Use emoticons to be more visible. (Install any iPhone emoticon app first).
- Direct marketing, promote yourself directly, like this funny people from a country hotel in Spain (La Casa de Pasaron @lacasdepasaron in IG)
- Or beg for a follower like this one
- Celebrate new followers
- External promotion. When you shared your IG pics on twitter, facebook and so on you get people to your IG. Like these guys using hashtags or posting their TL on twitter and facebook
- Obviously you can get more followers just by telling IG to look users within your addressbook.
- Once you get a pic in the popular page, you´ll get a nice bunch of followers
